WORDS OFTEN CONFUSED







 Words often confused or confusable is sn informal term used to explain 2 or more words which are easily confused with one another because of the following:

Similarity

Like...perspective prospective 

  • Affect
    A verb that means to act on or produce a change in something. For example, "The earthquake affected many people".
    Effect
    A noun that means a result or consequence of something. For example, "One effect of the earthquake was that many people lost their homes.

Austin behaved badly
badly" is an adverb
bad is adjective

jennys car met with an accident 
its bad.

 in meaning imply and infer...junction juncture footer and footnote...

Same spelling but different meaning homonyms.... for example, the words like...bank......

Bank financial institute and bank a river side, banking as banking on success would mean collecting success.


Don't compromise your beliefs/principles for the sake of being accepted.
If we back down on this issueour reputation will be compromised
  • Lead
    As a verb, "lead" means to guide, direct, or take the initiative. For example, "I hope to lead the race after the first lap". As a noun, "lead" refers to the heavy metal element.
    Led
    As the past tense of "lead", "led" indicates that someone or something was guided or directed by another person or entity. For example, "I led the race after the first lap"


Different spellings but same pronunciation

For example, fair..fare.

Lead, led lead for leading position leading team... Leader

The captain led his team to famous world cup victory in 1983.

Accept except one is agree with one is exception means leaving.

Threw meaning throw  past form and through going through...like train goes through tunnel.

Among and between

Between the two .... preposition phrase

And among those leaders the man from right.

I have par-taken pills for headache since they were 2 already.

I have been selected for panel for first time.

Compliment and complement

Enquiry police enquired the suspects.

Inquiry

  I've been making inquiries into the cost of a round-the-world ticket.

Loose garments will not suit in winters

Lose his temper during the tedious work.
