Euphemism









 Euphemismplural nouneuphemisms: A mild or indirect word or expression substituted, or one considered to be too harsh or blunt when referring to something unpleasant or embarrassing.

Sometimes it's a substitution of a mild or pleasant expression for one that is too strong or unpleasant. also: a mild or pleasant expression so substituted. "Pass away" is a widely used euphemism for die.

Sometimes the adjective late

Referring ...dead ones...My late uncle left over lots for my cousins.

Downsize....to remove people

The company decided to downsize during recession.

The official received kickbacks to complete the deal.

Kickback mean bribe.


She was relived of her purse.

Relived means relieve someone of something to steal something. 

Examples

  • We have a differently abled man working as security.
  • We got to know that the family was on the streets, and so we are trying to help them in every way possible.
  • Shankar belongs to a well-to-do family.


Hearing impaired 
Used to refer to someone who is completely or partially deaf

Not a sharpest pencil in the box.

Refers to stupid person.

Varun failed to use the application, he isnt like a sharpest pencil in the box.

Euphemisms in the story

Devil means horror or wrongful intention

High rolling is used to refer to someone who spends money lavishly and thoughtlessly / a spendthrift.

It's that time of the month people started watching hockey on different screens.
